Factors to consider before deciding to divorce

| May 21, 2020 | family law |

Making the decision to file for a divorce could be one of the toughest decisions you will ever have to make. That’s why you probably won’t come to a clear conclusion overnight. You may spend months or even years thinking about whether it’s possible to save your marriage.

If you are edging closer toward the idea of filing for divorce, you may be hesitant because you don’t know if you’ve considered everything. The following are some key factors that you should consider before taking definitive action to file for a divorce.

Does your partner treat you badly?

Being treated badly could mean that you are being verbally or physically abused. You should never accept this type of behavior. If you are wondering whether this behavior is abuse, ask yourself whether you feel scared of your partner or if their actions negatively affect your self-esteem. If the answer to either of these questions is yes, you should take action to safely get out of the relationship.

Is there are a complete lack of intimacy?

If you do not have an intimate relationship, question whether there is any type of romance left. If you still cuddle, hug or kiss each other, it’s possible that you can regain the spark that you once had.

Do you feel indifferent toward your partner?

If you sympathize or empathize with your partner, there may be ways that you can build your relationship back up. However, if all you feel is resentment and bitterness, you may need to accept that the relationship is over.

If you think that it’s time to file for a divorce, make sure that you are fully prepared and understand the law before doing so.
